Departmental Overview

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking a Development Analyst who will work within the department's development unit.

The Cal Athletics Fund (CAF) is the fundraising and alumni relations arm of UC Berkeley's Intercollegiate Athletics Department, Cal Athletics. The Development Analyst is a key member of the Cal Athletics Fund team. This role will provide administrative support to the development office, particularly to our Leadership (Major) Giving Team. The Development Analyst will be a critical team member in providing support to our leadership gift officers and assisting the team in securing important financial resources for the athletics department and our student-athletes.

  • Provide administrative support to the Leadership Giving Team.
  • Lead strategies to track and analyze results of development activities, solicitation assignments, and progress toward fundraising goals.
  • Manages reporting on overall leadership giving program results to internal and external constituencies.
  • In collaboration with the Donor Engagement team, provides comprehensive project management in executing donor events and leadership visits..
  • Prepares briefing materials, trip itineraries and post meeting follow up for athletics leadership and coaches. This includes establishing internal and external deadlines, collaborating with Prospect Research staff and internal stakeholders, formatting and finalizing drafts, compiling and sharing briefing materials, and drafting thank you notes.
  • Drafts proposals in conjunction with leadership gift officers based on prospect and donor interests. Collaborates with unit partners to ensure accurate presentation of giving opportunities. Drafts informational and marketing materials for review for assigned programs. Drafts correspondence and contact reports.
  • Develops in-depth knowledge of donor prospects in the team portfolios and makes strategy recommendations where appropriate.
  • Assists gifts officers in coordinating strategy meetings, overseeing meeting logistics, agenda preparation, and materials.
  • Assists gift officers in scheduling and booking travel.
  • Collaborates with Prospect Development, development officers and other colleagues to ensure that donor biographic and contact information remain up-to-date in the donor database.
  • Ensures that all development activities are accurately recorded in the database.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve the operations of responsibilities managed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent training/experience.
  • Experience in a development office or non-profit setting.
  • Must have office experience and a firm understanding of how to be an effective team member within an office structure.
  • Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office and common desktop/web applications.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, service orientation, decision-making, time management, ability to multitask in a high volume environment, organizational skills and problem resolution skills.
  • Must possess the following office management skills: filing, calendaring/scheduling appointments, answering phones, writing memos and excellent customer service.
  • Possess the ability to perform database research and basic analysis of information.
  • Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the Pacific-12 Conference, the NCAA as well as other associations and agencies to which the Berkeley campus of the University of California adheres. At all times, avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a collegiate athletics development office.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable NCAA and Pac-12 Conference rules and regulations.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $67,000 - $72,000.

  • This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
