Departmental Overview

Real Estate Services (RES) is a professional business unit within VC Administration/Capital Strategies, which delivers real estate services within the campus and the broader Bay Area of Northern California. RESO has overall responsibility for managing a program that optimizes the utilization of its off-campus real estate assets to further the facility's goals and financial objectives of the Berkeley Campus. RESO develops plans, policies, procedures, and standards for the delivery of real estate services for the broader campus. The office manages real estate sales, purchases, joint ventures, leases, and development opportunities on behalf of the campus.

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local requirements; stays current with changes in the law.
  • Interprets related policies and advises departments accordingly.
  • Conducts audits of internal records and processes. Makes recommendations on maintaining and strengthening internal controls to protect University resources.
  • Initiates and designs summary reports and background materials regarding a wide variety of internal and external policies and regulations to address a range of issues such as regulatory compliance, tax implications, recovery of cash, risk management, and the organized implementation of new services, procedures, and/or policies.
  • Participates in the analysis and design for new services or financial operational systems or processes that have a critical organization-wide impact.
  • Applies advanced financial services and accounting concepts to perform highly complex technical analyses.
  • Applies advanced understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures to resolve highly complex or difficult assignments.
  • Develops and implements financial transaction processes and procedures; may train staff on financial activities.
  • May back up those who perform specialized tasks or activities.
  • May coordinate financial system implementations and upgrades.
  • Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect the functional area.
  • Responsible for providing analyses for highly complex budgetary, financial, and resource projects, often dealing directly with major department managers.
  • Trains staff and creates an effective teamwork environment.
  • May serve as a project manager or subject matter expert.

Required Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of financial or accounting concepts, policies, and procedures, as well as related accounting and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Advanced skills in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
  • May require analytical skills sufficient to develop and implement financial data management and reporting systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels.
  • Skills include service orientation, ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high volume environment; uses sound judgment and decision making, critical thinking, creative problem solving, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of the organization and systemwide financial processes and procedures.
  • May require skills in project management, leadership, and process re-design.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
  • Advanced leadership skills to provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to professional and support staff.

Salary & Benefits

Annual salary range is $70,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience.
