Support Technician II SOA (Part-time Variable Hours)

Position Category: Staff - Part-Time (Variable Hour)


The School of the Arts Technician provides support of IT systems to SOA faculty, staff, and lab users through phone calls, e-mail, self-service requests, and personal contact.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and any combination of computer related education and/or technical support and customer service experience generally related to the essential functions/duties totaling 2 year, 1 year of which must be directly related to the essential functions/duties of the position; OR any combination of education and work experience generally related to the essential functions/duties of the position totaling 2 years, 1 year of which must be directly related to the essential functions/duties of the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Exchange, and Internet browsers (Edge, Chrome, Safari, Firefox).
  • Knowledge of installation and maintenance of Microsoft Windows OS. Mac OS X experience preferred. Experience with UNIX operating systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of basic network troubleshooting, connecting to a wireless network, and anti-virus\Malware\Adware removal software.
  • Knowledge of IT troubleshooting practices and researching technical issues.
  • Knowledge of music industry hardware/software preferred, but not required. (i.e. Notation Software, DAWs, MIDI, digital and analog I/O, mics and cabling, etc.)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Skilled with EIA/TIA cabling and electrical safety standards.
  • Ability to learn quickly and be highly self-motivated.
  • Ability to assemble, configure and repair computer hardware.
  • Ability to maintain an organized work environment and abide by established quality standards and inventory control processes.
  • Ability to communicate well with others and work independently is essential.
  • The ideal candidate demonstrates technical and customer service skills, as well as trustworthiness.

Preferred Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Traveling across campus is performed frequently.

Benefits Summary:

You may be eligible for a 3 credit hour or 1 class tuition waiver after 6 consecutive months of employment and a minimum of 475 hours worked. Dependents do not qualify for a waiver.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $12.95 - $15.73
