Research Data Analyst – Tisch College – (19001834)
This is a limited, 1 year position with the possibility of continuing further. This is a grant funded position and is not eligible for severance pay.
The Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life prepares Tufts students to become active citizens and community leaders. As the only university-wide college of its kind, its mission is to engage Tufts students in meaningful community building, public service experiences, and transformational learning. It conducts and supports groundbreaking research on civic and political participation and forges innovative community partnerships. Tisch College is a national leader in civic education, whose model and research are setting the standard for higher education’s role in civic engagement.
The Institute for Democracy and Higher Education (IDHE) studies and works to strengthen college student political learning, participation, and equity. IDHE’s signature initiative, the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement is both a service to higher education institutions – providing colleges universities with institution-level data on their students’ registration and voting – and a national database for research. NSLVE currently includes over 800 campuses from across the country.
This is a limited, 1 year position with the possibility of continuing further. IDHE conducts both quantitative and qualitative research on college student political learning and engagement. Its signature initiative, the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement (NSLVE) is the nation’s only objective study of college student civic engagement and voting. With more than 1,000 participating institutions and a database of student voting records for 10 million students for each of the 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 elections, NSLVE is a significant database for research. Under the direction of the Program Data Manager and in collaboration with the IDHE research team, s/he will contribute to database management, analysis, data visualization, report preparation and research & evaluation projects. The analyst will work on multiple projects simultaneously and must be capable of merging, cleaning, organizing and storing data and maintaining an accurate and efficient data dissemination process.
3 years of related experience.
Bachelor’s degree OR demonstrated competencies in relevant skills.
Proficiency using a statistical software package such as R, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Data management and analysis skills.
Data visualization experience.
Prior experience in querying data sets.
Experience with diverse stakeholders of varied educational and professional backgrounds and perspectives.
Keen attention to details and ability to manage multiple project deliverables and timelines.
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
Ability to gather and analyze available data and draw logical conclusions.
Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and meet demanding timelines.
Ability to compose accurate and clearly written reports and documents.
Ability to work independently within basic guidelines and parameters.
A history of collaboration and team work.
Proactive problem solving and critical thinking/analysis skills.
Experience in higher education.
Experience with voting data.
Experience in data visualization software and website management.
Exposure to large datasets, querying tools, and/or database programming language such as SQL.
Exposure to logic models, research design, statistical analysis (multivariate statistics), and quantitative research methods.
