The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Proofreader, Editor and Writer within the department of Marketing, Insights and Communications.

The Proofreader, Editor and Writer will play a key role in assuring error-free communication on behalf of the university and serving as an online editor and writer for the Newsroom.


Coordinates proofreading and serves as primary proofreader for more than 500 pieces a year, ranging from magazines to online advertising
Works with magazine editors, marketing representatives and designers to ensure the accuracy of materials produced by the university
Has a mastery of the Associated Press stylebook

Serves as assistant magazine and Newsroom editor; serves as a backup for institutional social media (primarily Twitter and Facebook)
Technically proficient with a deep knowledge of web-based blogging software (WordPress) and photo editing software (Photoshop)
Strong understanding of data-driven results (Google Analytics and social media insights)
Serves as editor of Lumen, Department of Catholic Studies Magazine (two issues/year)

Requires strong writing skills to generate a variety of content, which primarily includes news items as well as some long-form features
Capable of generating story ideas by reaching out to community members and conducting web research.
Working knowledge of communications strategies, including use of website content management (inside and outside the Newsroom), social media, email and RSS


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, or a related field
Three years of writing, editing, and proofreading experience
Knowledge of and skill in Associated Press Stylebook standard office practices and procedures
