Current laboratory projects use various methods to investigate the nervous system on in vitro and in vivo levels. Future experiments will incorporate molecular biology methods to identify genes, proteins, and other small molecules that are responsible for initiating or maintaining chronic pain in mammals. Collaborators on these projects may be located at other universities or research institutions nationally and internationally. Thus, the ability to work independently, collaborate, and supervise lab operations are important. Individuals who will welcome the opportunity to expand ongoing research programs in chronic pain and its therapeutic applications in humans are encouraged to apply.
