Overview
The Tufts Career Center provides comprehensive career development assistance to undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni from Arts, Sciences and Engineering, and the SMFA at Tufts. We provide individual career advising, drop-in hours, online resources, workshops, graduate school advising, career and internship fairs, networking and presentations with alumni and employers, job and internship search assistance including online listings. We strive to foster transformational experiences which shape the professional, academic, and personal development of Tufts students and alumni. What You'll Do
The Assistant Director, Career Mentoring is a student-facing position and will assist with managing and supporting the HERD Career Mentoring platform for Arts, Science and Engineering/SMFA students (https://tufts.peoplegrove.com/). If you have experience mentoring undergraduates and graduate students and knowledge of mentoring platforms, you can have an impact on career outcomes and important aspects of the career development journey for students!

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating career mentoring opportunities for all students, with a focus on BIPOC, LGBTQ and International Students
  • Program Development and Marketing for the HERD Platform
  • Develop promotional materials aimed at recruiting students for the HERD and a marketing/communications plan
  • Develop mentoring resources for Arts, Science and Engineering and SMFA students available in the HERD platform
  • Program Management
  • Develop a Mentee Program Handbook
  • May provide limited career advising appointments for Graduate Students 
  • Program Assessment
  • Demonstrate care and understanding while supporting students and their career development
  • Collaborating with Alumni Engagement department


What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a Bachelor’s Degree with 3-5 years of experience and a strong familiarity with mentoring required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills along with an ability to work cross-functionally with a broad range of internal and external constituents, including alumni mentors.   
  • Experience working in racial, ethnic, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills with demonstrated event and project management, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and requests.
  • Comfortable with technology including web-based platforms and applications.
  • Quickly identify problem areas or situations, evaluate causes, and take appropriate action to resolve problems identified.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Empathetic and welcoming to all. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience working with mentor programs and career development preferred.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience with the PeopleGrove mentoring platform.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:

This is a hybrid position and is expected to be on campus at least 2-3 days each week.
