The Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life prepares Tufts students to become active citizens and community leaders. As the only university-wide college of its kind, its mission is to engage Tufts students in meaningful community building, public service experiences, and transformational learning.  It conducts groundbreaking research on young people’s civic and political participation and forges innovative community partnerships. Tisch College is a national leader in civic education, whose model and research are setting the standard for higher education’s role in civic engagement.

What You'll Do

This is a part-time position at 17.5 hours per week.


Working with the Director of Community Partnerships, the Associate Director of Community Partnerships will develop goals and a strategic plan to expand multi-disciplinary community partnerships for education, research, and practice. The Associate Director will lead community outreach for the purpose of building relationships with and learning about issues facing Boston’s neighborhoods in order to identify prospective partnership opportunities for Tisch College.


The Associate Director will attend in-person (and virtual) community meetings/events, annual meetings, coalition meetings, public programs, and more. The Associate Director must have demonstrated, deep knowledge of and experience with Boston’s nonprofit and public sectors, with a focus on underserved communities.  They must have knowledge of and/or experience with community organizing, civic engagement, community development, or advocacy as tools for addressing and creating social change. They must be knowledgeable about diversity, equity, and inclusion with a focus on racial equity and anti-racism strategies.  The Associate Director will also manage community benefits, including library access and work-study sponsorships.

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:


Knowledge and experience as tyically acquired by:


  • Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of related experience
  • Working with community outreach
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in programs and practice
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, MS Windows.
  • Excellent organizational skills; verbal and written communication; analytical; and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and be a team player


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree a plus
  • Experience in higher education
