Overview
The Tufts Annual Giving Team (TAG) is responsible for the strategy, design, and implementation of a comprehensive annual fundraising program, with an emphasis on leadership annual giving, class-based reunion fundraising, and volunteer-driven fundraising.
TAG is responsible for the Tufts Fund for Arts, Sciences, and Engineering, and provides strategic direction for annual giving university-wide as well as some central services for all schools' annual funds, including direct mail, telefund, and data analytics.
The mission of the Tufts Fund is to encourage Tufts alumni, parents, and friends to support the School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering as generously as possible each and every year. The fund is critical to the successful operation of the arts, sciences and engineering programs at Tufts University as it currently raises more than $8 million dollars annually, with nearly 80% of that toward unrestricted budget-relieving purposes. Gifts made through the annual giving program support financial aid, faculty salaries, curriculum development, and student activities. In addition, the Tufts Fund staff plays the most significant role in strengthening alumni participation in Tufts' fundraising efforts, one of the statistics used by U.S. News & World Report when determining college rankings. What You'll Do
- Student and Young Alumni Philanthropy Officer- reporting to the Associate Director, Volunteer Management - is a key member of the Tufts Annual Giving Team, responsible for developing and managing a portion of the Tufts Fund Volunteer Program.
- Students: S/he will recruit, train, and support students, staff and volunteers who ask their classmates to financially support the Tufts Fund. S/he will similarly revise the Student Giving program to enhance its recognition on campus, shifting the model to a student-run program that focuses both on educating the student body about the Tufts Fund and increasing the number of student donors. The Officer will be responsible for designing and providing training for students, staff and volunteers, including setting fundraising goals, solicitation techniques, and Tufts Advancement policies and practices. S/he will manage the graduating class gift component of the Student Giving Program.
- In partnership with the Office of Alumni Relations, the Office of Campus Life, the Athletic Department, and other key University offices, s/he will design, manage and staff student philanthropy focused events, manage student athletic calling nights to alumni, implement a multi-channel communications plan for education and soliciting students, and partner on efforts to plan and staff senior exclusive events and other activities as necessary to promote the campaign.
- Young Alumni: S/he will recruit, train, and support alumni volunteers who ask their classmates to financially support the Tufts Fund, primarily alumni volunteers of recent graduate reunion classes celebrating Back to the Hill Weekend. S/he will conduct personal outreach to identify and recruit volunteers for assigned classes, and will be responsible for providing general and fundraising outreach support to volunteers. S/he will support the Associate Director, Volunteer Management and the Assistant Director for Volunteer Management, Tufts Fund as needed in the development of reunion volunteer training materials to be shared in print, electronically, and at in-person trainings, as well as volunteer leadership workshops as they are developed. S/he will organize and staff internal team meetings and class committee calls/meetings, participate in annual fund goal setting (participation and dollar), and organize volunteer trainings including the promotion and support of the Tufts Volunteer Network for assigned classes. In addition to evaluating and developing marketing methods, including web, print, and social media, s/he will coordinate reunion mailings and assist in overseeing the use of a shared reunion brand. S/he will plan and oversee the fundraising components of Back to the Hill Weekend in June.
- The Student and Young Alumni Philanthropy Officer will also be responsible for data maintenance. S/he will assist in providing reports and analyses of various program metrics as needed. S/he will play a central role in the implementation and maintenance of the Tufts Volunteer Network, an online volunteer support site, and will be responsible for updating and maintaining the current Tufts Fund Volunteer, Student Giving and Back to the Hill web pages. S/he will work – by phone, email and in person – with volunteers, and will also be expected to provide primary administrative support for the program such as assembly and distribution of materials and drafting correspondence.
What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements
• Years of related experience required: 1-3 yrs of professional experience in volunteer management, fundraising/development or alumni relations. • Required education: BA/BS • Special licenses required: n/a • Required computer/technical skills: Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software applications, including Word and Excel. Some complex database experience is preferred (Access, Advance, Millenium, Raiser's Edge, etc.) • Other (Describe – i.e., lifting, domestic/foreign travel, foreign language): Must be proactive, articulate, personable, well-organized, service-oriented, and able to handle multiple projects concurrently. Excellent interpersonal skills and a solid understanding of social media engagement strategies are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
Must be responsive and service oriented to internal (Faculty, Administrators, Staff, etc.) as well as external constituents (alumni, donors, etc.) Experience in annual giving is preferred.
An aptitude for and commitment to learning new systems and applications is preferred.
