Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking an Irrigation & Pest Control Supervisor for the Grounds/Irrigation Department of Facilities Management at the Daytona Beach campus. The Irrigation & Pest Control Supervisor is responsible for implementing a comprehensive horticultural plan that encompasses irrigation, fertilization and pest control to ensure the proper environment for optimal growth for the plant materials at the University. Thorough and consistent inspection of landscapes including but not limited to flower beds, shrubs, trees, and turf areas looking for weeds, insects, diseases, soil conditions and moisture levels are a primary aspect of this job.

Responsibilities include the following:
Identify areas needing chemical vs. manual weed control and develop an implementation plan.
Inspect all landscaped areas looking for damaging pests. Test for appropriate nutritional and moisture levels conducive to optimal plant growth.
Supervise horticulture crew, irrigation and pest control technicians including annual evaluations, leave requests, licensing requirements.
Implement irrigation and chemical application schedules that ensure appropriate interactions.
Responsible for requesting equipment and supplies and ordering upon approval.
Inspect routine crew work and various group projects.
Review landscape and irrigation construction plans to prevent design oversights. Update plans as necessary. Maintain a photographic log of improvements to both irrigations systems and landscaping.
Reserve all areas as possible and necessary to ensure no conflicts with student activities when applying chemicals and irrigation.
Work hours may vary.


Required Qualifications:
Formal diploma/certificate/degree program of 6-18 months after high school in Pest Control, Irrigation, or Horticulture.
The Florida Limited Lawn & Ornamental License, and/or 3 years’ experience in the installation and repair of irrigation systems, and/or 3 years’ experience in horticulture.
Analytical skills with an in depth knowledge of pest control, horticulture, and irrigation systems
Ability to be continually exposed to outside elements and work in outdoor environment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
Must meet the University’s standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):
More than 3 moving violations and/or accidents in 3 years
More than 2 moving violations and/or accidents in any 1 year
A major conviction in the last 3 years, including (but not limited to) driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and/or homicide or assault by motor vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:
3 to 5 years of experience in organizing diverse groups of skilled individuals working towards a common goal.
2 to 3 years’ experience working in a residential university setting.
