Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities
This position seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of Livestock Research Assistant and Project Manager. The position will require the performance of a variety of duties related to various projects—current projects include 1) developing a pasture-based performance test available to (AL, MS, & GA) meat goat producers so that they can evaluate potential sires (males) in an environment similar to that in which they produce their animals and 2) establishment of a livestock (goat) monitoring system that involves the detection, individual identification and tracking of goats as a means of predicting welfare. This position reports to the research directors for these projects.

The successful candidate will:

Responsible for the completion of both research and project management deliverables, including project plans and research schedules, progress reports, and investigational applications Facilitate or present research at seminars and conferences in line with his/her expertise Maintains project’s computer system and related equipment, processing a variety of computer data entries according to established procedures, and ensuring that the system files are backed up Maintain key data into the program computer system to ensure up-to-date, accurate information in the project database Process documents and materials for procurement, reporting, and disseminating information/materials Respond to inquiries to provide information and/or direction Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work project Provide leadership in coordinating project team members Work within the approved budget, develop and implement cost-saving measures

Qualifications

Bachelor degree with some training in Animal Sciences and Business Management preferred Experience in laboratory procedures Experience in conducting research Ability to communicate orally and to be able to write manuscripts Experience working with animals Demonstrate organizational skills Demonstrate leadership skills Detail orientated Independent Self Starter/Team Player

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred Demonstrate ability to utilize scientific search engines, such as PubMed, Agricola, etc. and Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Be familiar with statistically analyzing research data by using SAS, SPSS, R, etc.
