Departmental Overview
Residential and Student Service Programs (RSSP) is a complex "cluster" of departments with an aggregated operating budget of approximately $125 million, a head count of over 2,000 employees in over 150 buildings (2.7 million square feet) that provide a variety of services to faculty, staff, students and the surrounding campus community. These services include an orientation and transition programs for incoming students, an inclusive community that fosters academic success and personal growth for our residents, single student and family housing for 7,500 students and (in some cases) their families, dining options for the campus and community, an early childhood education program, and conference operations during the summer.

In Residential Education within RSSP this position is charged with planning, developing and implementing programs, services, activities and processes for students in their non-academic life at the University Village Family Housing facility residential students at the University of California, Berkeley. This includes residential life, public service, student conduct, gender identity and sexual violence, leadership development, student organization advising, and other areas. University Village family housing facility is a 975 apartment international family housing facility serving approximately 3000 individuals, including over 900 children and approximately 954 families.

Responsibilities
  • Provides general information to help residents become integrated into the campus and local communities.

  • Helps to resolve resident problems and basic conflicts, directs residents to appropriate outreach services, and refers serious or potentially serious matters to a Student Life and Development professional.
  • Assists residents with emergency needs and lockouts
  • Assists with orienting new residents and offers ongoing information as needed
  • Participates in disaster response preparedness, and assists residents if emergencies occur.

  • Provides health and safety training, guidance on safe work practices, provides proper equipment, observes work practices and correct methods and investigates accidents.
  • Works in a safe and responsible manner while not putting self or others at risk. This includes complying with applicable policies and regulations; using personal safety gear; observing warning signs; learning about potential hazards; and reporting unsafe conditions.


Required Qualifications
  • Ability to appropriately display interpersonal skills via customer service orientation and active listening
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems at time with minimal assistance
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of ethical principles, practices, and procedures of Residential and Student Services
  • Knowledge of FERPA laws for the handling of confidential information


Education/Training:
  • High school diploma or equivalent education


Licenses or certifications, if any:
  • CANRA mandated reporter online training required - upon hire


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a University or Family Housing setting preferred
  • Must be a resident in the University Village at University of California, Berkeley in good standing
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred
  • Awareness of University policies and guidelines and Family Student Housing programs
  • College degree preferred and/or equivalent years experience/training.


Salary & Benefits
This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience.
