Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a Director, Veteran Student Services for the Daytona Beach campus, reporting to the Dean of Enrollment Management. The Director manages, coordinates, and monitors all operational activities pertaining to the administration of veterans’ education and training programs by obtaining and maintaining authorizations for veterans training and by coordinating the delivery of programs and services to veterans, service members, reservists and other eligible persons at the Daytona Beach Campus. This position is designated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a university official responsible for the proper program administration of federal and state veterans’ education programs including reporting, program audits, payments, overpayments, compliance, and audit coordination. The Director is responsible for keeping current on all federal, state and institutional regulations and guidelines as they relate to veterans’ education programs, interpreting those policies and procedures mandated by the U.S. Departments of Veterans Affairs, and engaging with university faculty for veterans and other groups to help increase student satisfaction and retention of veteran students.

Responsibilities include the following:

Providing leadership, direction, and guidance to the Veteran Student Services staff responsible for the delivery of education benefits at the Daytona Beach Campus by:

Developing goals and objectives for the function and performance plans for individuals assigned to carry out these functions.
Providing supervision and guidance to VA Program Administrators and support staff.
Developing timetables for all activities related to delivery of these programs.
Providing leadership by creating an atmosphere of involvement and participation, provide training opportunities, making assignments and delegating authority, evaluating performance, making hiring and termination decisions, setting appropriate standards of performance and behavior, and applying other successful leadership skills to management style.
Identifying policies of other departments that affect veteran students and the population served by this department by working together towards resolution if necessary.
Interpreting federal, state and internal regulations with regard to the administration of veterans programs.
Working with university departments and external agencies on subjects relating to veteran issues.
Preparing and managing the VA department operational budget.
Creating an innovative, collaborative, professional working environment that fosters creativity.

Administering veterans’ education programs by:

Complying with federal, state, and institutional regulations with regard to the administration of veteran’s education programming.
Developing policies and procedures.
Working with federal, state, and internal auditors to conduct audits of veterans’ education programs. Acting as liaison between the students, Veterans Program Administrators, the VA, other university departments/services and external agencies.
Advise potential beneficiaries of the eligibility and entitlement provisions of the various VA education benefits programs.
Ensure compliance with federal, state and institutional rules, policies and procedures.
Developing correspondence and publications that provide program information, eligibility requirements, university requirements, and student responsibilities.
Monitoring and reconciling US VA and US Treasury Debt Management.

Acquiring and maintaining State and Federal approval for veterans training at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Daytona Beach campus; responsible for:

Higher Education Opportunity compliance and verification.
Submission of required materials and documents necessary to retain approvals.
Timely submission of required reporting (probations, 85/15, Yellow Ribbon Contract, etc.).

Additional responsibilities include:

Representing the department by serving on university committees, attending meetings, providing pertinent information regarding veterans’ benefits and other entitlements available to them.
Providing training on veterans’ programs and other issues to new faculty, staff, students.
Representing the university/department to external organizations involved in veterans’ benefits and entitlements
Assisting the university in accomplishing other objectives by completing special projects or other work assignments.
Assisting the VA with training at School/VA Conferences.
Participating in professional development opportunities to expand knowledge and enhance performance.


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree preferred.
