The Director of Residential Life is responsible for a comprehensive residential life and housing program, encompassing over 2900 beds in 17 Residence Halls and 110 Townhouses. The Director supervises a staff comprised of an Associate Director, an Assistant/Associate Director, a Housing Coordinator, six Area/Resident Directors and 65 Resident Assistants. The Director’s leadership of the department is focused on the overall resident student experience with an emphasis on community development, academic success, health and wellness and personal responsibility and growth. The Director is responsible for the vision and strategic planning for the department as the residential experience is an integral part of a Bryant undergraduate education. This position requires the incumbent to be available during non-scheduled hours in order to respond to student crisis and emergency situations.
1.) Effectively recruit, supervise, train, evaluate and encourage professional residential life staff to accomplish the missions of Residence Life, Student Affairs and the University ensuring that hiring and supervisory practices are in compliance with the spirit and intent of the University’s policy on diversity and inclusion and EEO/AA guidelines.
2.) Develop and coordinate the housing occupancy projections/forecast on an ongoing basis and ensure that the room application and housing assignments process is managed and billed properly.
3.) Oversee the student conduct system as it relates to residence halls/townhouses and coordinate case management with the Associate Dean of Students/Director of Community Standards. Serve as the primary hearing officer in the Office of Residence Life.
4.) Develop departmental goals, processes and strategies in collaboration with divisional and University mission and strategic plan.
5.) Establish, review and revise Residence Life policies and procedures as well as emergency response protocol on an ongoing basis.
6.) Design and implement a programming model that advances a diverse residential community with an emphasis on character development and the celebration of cultural and multicultural awareness.
7.) Coordinate with Campus Management the maintenance of the residence halls and townhouses, providing a safe, clean and healthy living environment. Assist Campus Management with long range planning of facility renovation and construction.
8.) Work with Student Affairs leadership to prepare, analyze and monitor all budgets related to the Office of Residence Life.
9.) Serve on divisional and University committees, task forces and special projects.
10.) Serve in an on-call duty rotation with the Associate and Assistant/Associate Directors for the Office of Residence Life.
11.) Participate in Student Affairs or University programs and events as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students.
12.) Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is best served by an individual with a Master’s degree in Student Personnel Services or other related degree and 6-8 years of progressively responsible experience in the management of residential supervision, programming and facilities. Experience with student conduct systems and legal issues related to student affairs is required. Experience with residence life/housing software is required. The ability to supervise, direct and motivate professional and student staff is required. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential to represent the University and to cultivate relationships with diverse constituent groups.
