Position Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo is seeking an Instructional Support Technician. In this role you work as part of a team focused on Windows desktop lifecycle support and administration of Windows 10/11 images and application packages using SCCM. This position interfaces with University faculty, staff, business partners and students.

In this role you will:
    • Provide fundamental systems support to local and remote users.
    • Support faculty, staff, and classroom Windows systems and services.
    • Carry out responsibilities for the entire desktop lifecycle – deploy, inventory, deliver, install, maintain/support, equipment decommission and disposal.
    • Acquire and respond to user service requests; track problem solution from initial receipt through completion.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve computer-related technical issues.
    • Ensure system security and compliance with University standards and regulations.
    • Write, revise, and edit user and technical reference documentation.
    • Collaborate closely with other team members: Take shared responsibility for daily and project level team duties, obligations, and procedures to achieve excellent outcomes.


The Instructional Support Technician must continually remain proficient with state-of-the-art-technology for relevant computing platforms, operating systems, applications, procedures and techniques.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of an associates degree with 4 years of experience, a combination of degree, certification and experience will be considered in lieu of the experience requirements.
  • Must have basic knowledge of TCP/IP, Active Directory, and computer imaging tools.
  • Strong analytical, time-management skills, and the ability to work on a team and independently are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Support in a higher education setting is preferred

Physical Demands

  • Frequently moves computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, across campuses, with the assistance of a dolly or cart.
  • A valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle is required or candidate must otherwise demonstrate his/her capacity to meet the transportation requirements of the position.
