Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and post journal entries to assigned asset, liability, capital, and expense accounts by compiling and analyzing account information.
Prepare assigned account reconciliations monthly, investigate issues and prepare adjusting journal entries as appropriate.
Summarize current financial status by collecting information, preparing financial statements and other reports.
Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents and reconciling assigned accounts back to subledger activity.
Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information, prepare and post journal entries when appropriate.
Secure financial information by completing database backups
Reconcile assigned bank accounts and other accounts as assigned monthly.
Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
Provide technical support and advice to management
Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and generally accepted accounting procedures
Provide input into department’s goal setting process
Prepare financial statements as assigned and produce reports according to reporting schedule
Support internal and external audits to ensure compliance. Provide assistance, gather necessary account information and documents to support performing annual year end audit.
Support month-end and year-end close process
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
Communicate effectively with business and University partners
Contribute to a strong client relationship through positive interactions with client personnel
Communicate with Manager and/or Controller, CFO on work status and client issues that arise
Follow all University Health and Safety programs and actively participate in training to gain knowledge and understanding
Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned to support the Controller, Fiscal Affairs, and Human Resources Departments.
Qualifications, Skills, and Proficiencies
Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles
Awareness of business trends
Experience with creating financial statements
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year close process
Familiar with various accounting software user and administration skills
Accuracy and attention to detail
Aptitude for numbers and qualitative skills
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
Intermediate understanding of accounting and reporting standards, with experience in researching as it relates accounting issues
Experience with accounting software is a plus

Ability to write reports, effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, or the general public.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and written.
Must possess good customer service skills and oral and written communication skills.
Must demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, schedule, and monitor activities and projects.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer literacy skills in spreadsheet (EXCEL) and word processing (WORD)
Demonstrated good listening skills.
The ability to interact with diverse employees, faculty and staff populations, and exhibit a commitment to excellent customer service.
Working knowledge of office procedures
Demonstrate basic time management skills
