Berkeley Summer Sessions, Study Abroad, University Extension, and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (SSALLEX) is the trusted educational provider for students at all stages of their academic and professional journeys. As the extended educational division of the University of California, Berkeley, SSALLEX fulfills an essential part of the University's mission to extend access to this world-renowned university's research and scholarship to a global community.
A vibrant, inclusive, and dynamic organization, SSALLEX welcomes 60,000 visiting, current, and potential Berkeley students studying across a wide range of programs, including year-round courses, Fall Program for First Semester, post- baccalaureate programs, visiting student experiences, study abroad programs, global internships, summer minors, professional certificates, and year-round offerings for older adults. SSALLEX works closely with faculty, academic units, international business partners, parents, and central campus service providers to extend the reach of the university's world-renowned network of instructors, experts, and professionals. We create rich learning experiences to develop skill sets and critical minds and motivate our students to be the change they want to see.
The UC Berkeley SSALLEX Classroom Technology Services team is a branch of the overarching IT division. A primary function of the Classroom Technology Services team is to support students, instructors, and academic support staff hosting courses and events in our brick and mortar facilities. Our support offerings range from software licensing and application installation on classroom lectern computers, to audio visual set-up and support for public panel events and internal offerings. Additionally, the team provides support to the SSALLEX administrative helpdesk; managing ticketing queues, processing onboarding/offboarding of staff, laptop deployments, permission access to mission critical systems and departmental drives. Responsibilities
- Under general supervision operates and monitors all installed computer systems, network systems and ancillary equipment in accordance with established operating procedures, policies and production schedules.
- Provide level I technical support for AV equipment, peripherals, software and network. Install, repair, configure and setup computers, operating systems, and application software in both academic and administrative environments. Provide scheduled maintenance and support for computer and audio-video equipment. Evaluate and diagnose hardware and equipment failures. Document all additions, configuration changes to workstations.
- Utilizes proper diagnostic techniques and problem solving skills to resolve the specific technical and / or equipment problems; document and provide detailed information about the action taken, and escalate problems to shift manager as required.
- Provides level I technology support; This includes the use of technology for classroom based and distance learning courses. Responds to requests for assistance with classroom and administrative computers, network and software problems in a timely manner. Support the use of equipment and software such as Windows and/or MacintoshPCs, video conferencing tools such as Zoom, Adobe Connect, document cameras, data projectors, DVD/VHS players, video cameras, microphones and tablets.
- Facilities Support; Assist with the installation of TV screens, computer carts, tables and other furniture used in classrooms. Mount equipment to walls, ceilings or floors. Set up electrical equipment to support the use of laptops, tablets and other mobile technologies.Installs and de-installs servers or like equipment into server racks utilizing equipment lifts and hand tools.
- Provide general classroom support, assist with set-ups, stock classroom supplies, Respond to and provide on-site support to instructors and students. Open and close facilities. Resolve room scheduling issues as needed.
- Under general supervision, provide general administrative helpdesk assistance via ticketing system.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to lift over 50lbs. with or without accommodation.
- Must be willing to work shifts, weekends and holidays as required. In person, onsite position.
- Experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting Windows and Macintosh desktop computers.
- Experience supporting Audio-Visual equipment such as TVs, video cameras, document cameras, wireless microphone systems, etc.
- Proven experience resolving issues with Micrsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, Adobe Connect, Google Groups, as well as other typical desktop applications.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service, and organizational and problem solving skills.
- Must be able to work in a team environment, have a desire to constantly learn new technologies and to share knowledge with team members.
- Must be able to work independently and take initiative.
- Must be able to interact effectively and courteously with a diverse group of users, including instructors, student and team members.
- High school diploma and/or equivalent experience/training.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 50% (20 hours per week), 9-month (limited) position.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
