Under the supervision of the Director and Associate Director of the Exceptional Educational Opportunities Program, the EEO/EOF Counselor (Professional Services Specialist III) provides academic, personal (as it pertains to academic progress) and career counseling, as well as guidance to a diverse student population; and facilitates EEO/EOF Program efforts to address student retention and initiatives within the Program. The EEO/EOF Counselor will support program objectives to ensure that all students obtain their baccalaureate degree and pursue professional fields of work or graduate studies consistent with the Kean University’s dual mission of access and academic excellence. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours and is partially funded by a grant through the State of New Jersey. Future employment is contingent upon supporting grant funds.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Master’s degree and two years of professional experience in an institution of higher education providing personal, academic and/or career counseling services is required. A Master’s degree in the field of Counseling and professional experience in higher education specifically related to counseling educationally and financially disadvantaged students is preferred. Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and computer literacy, including the ability to use Microsoft Office programs, computer databases and technologies such as web-based services and social media.
