The Financial Management department at the University at Buffalo is seeking a Senior Staff Assistant who will handle various cost accounting and financial reporting responsibilities. The selected candidate will need to perform a variety of duties to include:
Cost Accounting Responsibilities:
Assist in the cost accounting functions for fee development (service centers fees, university fees, departmental event fees and educational program fees).
University at Buffalo departments charge fees to support the internal operations of the university. Their main purpose is to recover the costs of operations through charges to users. This position will include review and updates of rates in accordance with University Fee policies and within the guidelines of the Federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY).
The candidate will be expected to work directly with units to establish rates.
Assist in the cost accounting functions for facility use rates, service contracts and other cost accounting projects.
Assist auditors, ensuring best practices and strong internal controls are in place and conduct departmental reviews to evaluate for proper in controls procedures, payment and collection processes and accurate record keeping.
Assist in the preparation of the university’s financial reports.
Participation in training opportunities
Serve on various committees
Special projects or other assignments as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Bachelor of Science in Finance / Accounting or other Bachelor Degree with relevant professional experience.
Incumbents should possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to streamline processes.
MBA or Masters in Accounting.
Professional experience in accounting, preferably costing related.
Working knowledge of breakeven analysis, standard costing principles, cost efficiencies and sustainability measure are preferred.
