Position Summary
The Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center (EPAC) seeks an energetic and highly professional Senior Academic Advisor, Prehealth. The Prehealth Advisor is a member of the EPAC advising team within the department of Student Success and Academic Support, providing undergraduate advising services to students interested in going on to professional programs in the health fields (medicine, dentistry, optometry, etc.) and to students exploring majors. The position will report directly to the Coordinator, Pre-Professional Health Advising, EPAC.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:
Provide timely and accurate advice to students seeking admission to highly competitive professional health programs (e.g., MD, DDS, DO, DVM).
Advise students intending to apply through the UB Prehealth Committee in support of professional school centralized applications (e.g., MCAT, DAT, GRE).
Offer advising services pertaining to interview preparation, course sequencing, post-baccalaureate choices, selection of schools, financing a professional health school application, gaining research to support an application, and securing clinical exposure via employment, volunteer opportunities and career shadowing.
Serve as an active member of the Pre-Professional Health Committee and the central contact point for all Committee matters, including developing and maintaining database and tracking systems in support.

Provide timely and accurate advice to exploratory students, students transitioning between academic majors, and students needing to pursue alternative health profession options.
Develop and deliver small and large group presentations at various information sessions and University Admissions events (in person and virtual).
Offer sustained intervention, integrative programing efforts, and collaboration with the Career Design Center and other units to better support exploratory students and students in academic transition (students denied or dismissed from majors).
Contribute to/teach the Major and Career Exploration (UE 101) course.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree with a minimum of 1 year professional experience working with students in a college or university setting is required for this position with competencies in the following areas:
Experience serving and supporting diverse student populations.
Good interpersonal skills, including writing, verbal and listening skills.
Strong computer skills essential.
Outstanding organizational skills are also a must for this position.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferably in higher education administration, student affairs administration, counseling or related field.
More than 1 year of academic advising experience in a college or university setting.
Knowledge of working with students interested in pursuing prehealth career fields.
