Overview

The Diagnostic Imaging service provides clinical support to the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and the Hospital for Large Animals. The service also supports the teaching mission of the Department of Clinical Sciences. Modalities covered by the diagnostic imaging service include small animal and large animal radiology, small animal ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI and nuclear medicine.


What You'll Do

The Radiology technician provides exceptional level imaging quality for primarily small animal and exotic Radiology and fluoroscopy with assistance as needed and additional training provided in all modalities. This position requires the ability to multitask and excellent prioritization of cases to manage a varying caseload. The Radiology technician has exceptional communication skills to be able to teach students, interns, residents and other fellow technicians in Fear-free restraint, positioning, imaging technique and safe sedation practices.


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology, Degree in Radiologic Technology or at least three years of related experience.
  • Excellent small animal handling and restraint skills.
  • Comfort handling various species of small animal and exotic patients
  • Knowledge of and experience in sedation and anesthesia
  • Ability to effectively work as a member of a diverse team of clinical and administrative professionals. Incumbents must be self-motivated, flexible, organized and cooperative with a strong interest and effort directed towards the success of the entire team.
  • Knowledge of Diagnostic Imaging in a veterinary setting, particularly small animal radiography.
  • A desire to teach. This includes sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues throughout the Small and Large Animal Hospitals as well as students. Teaching also requires a commitment to ongoing professional development such as participation in Continuing Education and maintenance of credentials and certifications.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues throughout the both Animal Hospitals to prioritize multiple responsibilities for several patients within a busy clinical setting.
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to learn the electronic medical record system.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Veterinary Technician
  • Advanced training in small animal sedation and anesthesia
  • Experience in large animal Diagnostic Imaging
  • Previous experience in a high volume or University setting
