Position Summary:

Perform a wide variety of duties to support the mission of the Idaho Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit. Must function independently and have the ability to analyze proposals, grants, and contracts; make suggestions for revisions; answer questions; approve or disapprove grants and proposals before they are passed to next level. Must quickly learn and apply detailed knowledge of regulations and Regents' policies in regard to facilitating and coordinating sponsored programs through the UI proposal system for the USGS Idaho Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (USGS Coop Unit). Must perform a myriad of budget and administrative functions, including maintaining financial records for >30 budgets. Must keep records on and send reminders regarding required annual safety training for >50 students and staff. Must learn and understand many federal (USGS and DOI) fiscal, budget, and other policies and complete paperwork to ensure that the USGS Idaho Coop Unit complies with said policies. Coordinate efforts between the USGS Coop Unit, University of Idaho, USGS Headquarters, IDFG, and other cooperating agencies. Complete and submit reoccurring reports to USGS Headquarters in Reston, VA. Assist the Unit Leader to improve the function of the USGS Idaho Coop Unit, including helping to train graduate students and staff as to Coop Unit, CNR, UI, and USGS policies regarding budgets, safety, and purchasing. Maintain and improve USGS Coop Unit websites.

Minimum Qualifications:

BS degree or 3 years of job-related experience.
Experience with computerized accounting systems, governmental accounting, and analyzing program activities.
Experience with processing grants and or contracts
Experience multi-tasking and analyzing fiscal and budgetary information, maintain accounting systems, develop and monitor budgets including allocating expenditures and reconciling accounts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to quickly learn and understand accounting theory, principles, and practices.
Bachelors degree in a relevant field.
Ability to: work hard independently; analyze facts; devise solutions to problems; write concise reports; develop and evaluate policies and procedures; and interpret federal and state regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively with others, use problem-solving skills, and prioritize broad and complex work load.
Experience researching, compiling and summarizing data for reports.
Experience using finance or human resource data systems.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

Must be willing to occasionally work evening and weekend hours when needed to meet USGS Coop Unit deadlines.
