Departmental Overview

Berkeley Public Health (BPH) aims to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research. The Center for Targeted Machine Learning and Causal Inference (CTML), within the Berkeley Public Health, is an interdisciplinary research center for advancing, implementing and disseminating statistical methodology to address problems arising in public health and clinical medicine. Mirroring the last few years, CTML's project portfolio continues to grow that includes partnerships with Blue Shield, NIH, Novo Nordisk, Gates Foundation, and PCORI. Due to our increasing number of faculty members and granted projects, the CTML Administrative team is hiring an Administrative and Compliance Coordinator to provide exemplary level of administrative and project compliance service.

  • Applies professional and/or research concepts to perform analysis of data and systems pertaining to moderately complex projects, policies, initiatives, processes, and / or functions to ensure all transactions are in accordance with campus policy and agency requirements in a timely manner.
  • Prepares, edits and modifies documents including compliance reports, presentations and research proposals.
  • Gathers and assembles analytical and factual data on assigned problems and issues to prepare reports and / or analyses summarizing information on the assigned issues to be used in discussions, meetings of internal and external constituents.
  • Coordinate and provide financial management of CTML personnel ensuring correct accounting chartstrings are utilized and funding entries/direct retros are submitted before deadlines.
  • Plans and coordinates CTML events on campus, including managing vendors, processing invoices, and communicating with speakers/key individuals.
  • On a project basis, performs analytical studies on a variety of policies, research initiatives, programs and issues.
  • Participates in administrative policy and program project planning and development.
  • Provides recommendations and guidelines involving programs / initiatives.
  • Participates in workshops, trainings, and other professional development activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University policies/platform and/or experience in finance/accounting and/or or research administrative specific knowledge and other computer application programs (i.e. Microsoft office, Google applications).
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes and deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and ability to integrate core concepts of DEIB into everyday practice.


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Salary & Benefits

  • This is a 12-month, part-time (20 hours/week), Contract (temporary) position, and eligible for full UC benefits. This position has the opportunity for renewal, contingent on performance and departmental budget.
  • This is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. The hourly rate is commensurate with experience within the range of $30.00 - $35.00.
