DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The work involves para-professional duties in various college administrative functions. The incumbent may have direct contact with the public and assists them on eligibility and other procedural matters. The incumbent also assists college administrators in the performance of administrative and technical work as assigned. The work is performed under the direction of a college administrator or SES. Supervision may be exercised over clerical assistants; does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Develops and works with College systems;
- Makes decisions based on pre-established criteria;
- Assists with collection, compilation and dissemination of statistical data;
- Supervise full and part-time supportive clerical employees;
- Assists administrator on projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Candidates must be able to demonstrate awareness and sensitivity towards promoting an inclusive and diverse learning environment. Good knowledge of administrative practices and procedures in an institution of higher education; ability to assist effectively in the administrative affairs of an institution of higher education; ability to coordinate and relieve college officials of administrative duties. Ability to work well with others; ability to communicate well with others; good computer skills, including use of standard office hardware and software; good judgment; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Must work well with the public and businesses with whom we will be partnering. A basic knowledge of the department that could aid them in answering general questions about the major, the composition sequence and electives will also be required over time. Advisement is NOT part of the job description, merely being able to answer general student questions and then refer them to appropriate faculty and/or administration.
Completion of sixty (60) semester credit hours of study at a registered or regionally accredited college or university.
Official transcripts will be required for successful candidates within 30 days of hire.
As the department transitions into offering an A.A. in English, which will also include internship opportunities, the person in this position must work well with the public, businesses with whom we will be partnering, and be professional at all times.
