Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide stacks maintenance, support, and services at the reference desk
Gather, sort, and shelve books
Shelf-read the stacks and other collections for proper call number order
Assist patrons in locating materials in the stacks             .
Use computer skills, specifically, library databases to provide information to students, faculty, and staff
Train new student workers to assist with stacks maintenance, locating, and reshelving books
Create and maintain student assistants’ work schedules, job assignments, and records
Participate in professional development training
Identify problems areas due to space, preservation, or organization and identify ways to correct the issue
Identify materials that are need of repair
Update or replace call number signage
Help carry out shifting projects and maintain the cleanliness and order of stacks
Answer phone calls, reply to e-mail directed to the reference desk
Report maintenance or security problems (lights out, broken furniture, etc.)
Provide basic copy machine assistance
Work one night per week and Saturday and Sundays on a rotating basis
Perform additional duties as assigned or requested


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Familiarity with the Library of Congress Classification System
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Training and/or experience working in an academic library
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
Ability to push book truck, stoop, kneel, and reach high and low to shelve books
Willingness to learn new technologies and processes as needed. Must be a team player
