Job Summary:
The USF College Access Programs - ETS is a U.S. Department of Education funded program. The goal of ETS is to increase the number of low-income, first generation, middle school and high school students to complete high school, enroll into and complete postsecondary education. The program provides academic, career, and financial aid advising to participants and disseminates information on the college preparation process. Participants receive guidance in high school course selection, the college application/financial aid process and opportunities such as visits to local colleges.

The STEM Tutor provides individual and/or small group tutorials to middle school school students during school hours (8am-3pm), 2-3 times/week. Pre-algebra & Algebra are the subjects that will be tutored.

Tutors provide academic support at Visitacion Valley Middle School.. Tutors provide academic support in an engaging manner.

Full Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic assistance to middle school students during school day.
  • Provide individual and group tutoring in Math (Pre-algebra, Algebra).
  • Provide assistance to students in study skills development, learning strategies, organizational skills, and time management.
  • Share college knowledge with students regarding postsecondary education; assist students in researching career and college options, as time permits.
  • Maintain records and reports on tutorial contacts and participant progress.
  • Attend scheduled training sessions and staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Position Qualifications:
  • Good academic standing in subject areas to be tutored.
  • Experience and knowledge of study techniques and learning strategies.
  • Experience working with students in educational setting, prior experience tutoring/mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English and culturally competent with underserved communities preferred*
  • Successfully pass background check required
