Departmental Overview

Berkeley Regional Services (BRS) is comprised of six (6) Regions which provide services to specific "groupings/clusters" of schools, colleges, and organized research units (5 academic, 1 all other). This regional approach to providing administrative services is intended to improve service quality by re-establishing personal connections and to develop more local expertise.

BEST serves the College of Natural Resources, the Division of Biological Sciences, and related ORUs, museums, and field stations in the biological sciences. We are extremely proud of the team we have put together and are working hard to provide faculty, staff, and students in our region with expert advice and reliable support services that foster academic and professional success.

Our aim is to build an administrative support team that is 100% committed to you. Over time, BEST team members are determined to become familiar with the unique issues, terminology, funders, sponsors, vendors, and circumstances in the biological sciences that will enable us to provide service that you'll find responsive, meaningful, and relevant.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises a staff of HR Generalists who are responsible for managing relationships and coordinating HR service delivery to assigned client groups.
  • Ensures that BRS HR internal communications are conducted in order to manage client requests to resolution.
  • Partners with key department/unit contacts and tracks service nuances, policies and procedures to support development of unit-specific profiles/knowledge base materials.
  • Provide strategic HR consultation, education, and support to client management to resolve the most complex and sensitive issues concerning staff and the organization.
  • Assists assigned resources with work schedules and assignment of appropriate tasks including the delegation of client requests from the queue.
  • Partners with key department/unit contacts and tracks service nuances, policies and procedures to support development of unit-specific profiles/knowledge base materials.
  • Supports implementation of methodologies to improve service levels, manage client perceptions, and build strong client relationships with client teams.
  • Trains and instructs staff to perform assigned tasks.
  • Responsible for creating a work environment that is inclusive.


Required Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of personnel policies and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Has experience in handling employee relations cases in higher education environment.
  • Has experience in handling labor relations cases in a higher education environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn or has working knowledge of the UCB campus HR information systems.
  • Communicates effectively with a diversity of communication styles.
  • Makes decisions regarding work assignments and scheduling of subordinates.
  • Maintains an understanding of the unit goals and how this position supports those goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively.


Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.


Preferred Qualifications
  • SHRM or other comparable organization certification/training as a Senior HR Business Partner highly preferred.


Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
