Career and Internships Coordinator
Kean University is developing a state-of-the-art, university-wide internship program in which students will have an increasing number of opportunities for quality experiential learning. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Career Development and Education, the Career and Internships Coordinator (Professional Services Specialist 3) coordinates the strategic execution of the career planning and internship processes for students at all Kean University campuses including Union, Kean Ocean and Kean Skylands and provides guidance and assistance to Wenzhou-Kean University, in China.
The Career and Internships Coordinator provides individualized career counseling and outreach to current students and alumni on a variety of career development topics. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: overseeing a caseload of students for career counseling and advising; connecting students to internships and other field opportunities; counseling students regarding internship opportunities, preparation and career planning; presenting to students on NACE competency development; providing vision and direction through effective academic and employer collaboration; and performing related work as required. Kean’s Career and Internships Coordinator empowers students' short- and long-term career preparation and management activities so they can meet their career and educational goals. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in student support services, career services, human resources, a business environment or a related field is required. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Three years of experience working with students in an institution of higher education coordinating career services and internships is preferred. Excellent customer service skills and oral and written communication skills are essential.
