Program Administrator – Center for STEM Diversity, School of Engineering – (21001387)

Description

The Center for STEM Diversity (CSD) at Tufts University is an umbrella organization that develops best practices and creates new programming designed to increase recruitment and retention of underrepresented students in both the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering. The Center interfaces with undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff via events, workshops, and collaborative leadership. The CSD focuses on strengthening meaningful student participation in science and engineering fields, specifically for traditionally underrepresented populations including women, African Americans, Native Americans, the LGBTQ community, and those who identify as Hispanic and/or Latinx, as well as students of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and undocumented status. Currently, the Center operates three internal programs: Bridge to Engineering Success at Tufts (BEST), STEM Ambassadors, and Redefining the Image of Science and Engineering (RISE). The CSD is also a member of the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) grant through the National Science Foundation (NSF). With the support of this grant, the CSD manages a program, supporting students who are interested in research.

Under the direction of the CSD Program Manager, the Program Administrator will lead the STEM Ambassador program. STEM Ambassadors is a professional development program for students in both the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering that has an outreach initiative to connect high school students identifying as first-generation, low-income, or coming from traditionally underrepresented background to the varying STEM fields through interactive presentation and activities. STEM Ambassadors teaches communication, leadership, and presentation skills to undergraduates while also serving as a diverse community for continuous student growth and conversation surrounding DEI in STEM. The Program Administrator will be responsible for leading weekly workshop trainings, planning school visits with our partner schools and other outreach opportunities across campus, keeping members on track with their personal presentation/activities timelines, ordering school visit materials, transporting students to/from school visits, serving as the point of contact for other STEM outreach initiatives, managing success metrics and data analysis, serving as an advisor/mentor to members, and other program logistics as needed. The Program Administrator will also assist the Program Manager in managing other programs such as the Bridge to Engineering Success at Tufts program. Within this role the Program Administrator (1) Provides specialized, subject matter knowledge to develop, implement, review and evaluate a university Program or Project in collaboration with Manager or Director. (2) Participates in development of goals and strategies; creates data management and filing systems; develops, analyzes and monitors budgets, grants and contracts; and participates in development and implements marketing and advertising efforts including writing content for website and social media material. (3) May design and represent program externally at conferences, meetings and events. (4) Conducts research and drafts reports and results. (5) May oversee recruitment and management of study subjects.
