The mission of the Division of Academic Planning is to facilitate excellence in research and education at UC Berkeley. We oversee the overall academic direction of the university, steward space in university facilities, and facilitate strategic international partnerships. In fulfilling these goals, we collaborate closely with the schools, colleges, departments, and organizations across the campus, looking for synergies across organizational and disciplinary boundaries, and supporting the growth and development of emerging academic disciplines
- Applies advanced strategic concepts in planning, organizing, supervising and/or performs high level planning services to the VPAP and campus and/or University-wide administrative officers and planning staff engaged in academic space projects.
- Provides long-range strategic space planning for the campus in alignment with the campus mission and financial objectives.
- Evaluates space utilization based on existing State and University guidelines.
- Collaborates in the development of campus space and surge plans incorporating UCOP mandates, enrollment trends, departmental reviews and other relevant metrics.
- Leads projects and programs to encourage/incentive efficient utilization of campus space.
- Develops and administers campus space policies.
- Assists departments in developing local space management models and policies.
- Represents the VPAP in the space allocation decision-making process.
- Conducts space audits, provides expert analyses regarding space utilization, space move scenarios, and collaborates closely with campus partners to coordinate, implement, and complete space moves.
- Collaborates in the management of the ongoing maintenance of building space data and the system that supports them.
- Collaborates and supports the ongoing development of the Tririga system to support campus and UC-wide space management and planning efforts at the departmental and central administrative levels.
- Collaborates in the facilitation of the utilization of space data to support cross-campus efforts.
- Represents VPAP and academic interests on various campus planning committees representing diverse campus needs and interests.
- Resolves difficult or complex problems/situations related to professional work in the development, revision, refinement and/or amplification of long-range development plans.
- Identifies short and long-term solutions for pressing academic and administrative space needs.
- Resolves competing demands for campus space.
- Provides expert guidance regarding the strategic use of campus's limited physical portfolio.
- Provides expert staffing support to the academic programming committees.
- Directs and leads committee meetings as needed, supports the VPAP in directing committee meetings, provides expert consultation to committee members, documents and archives meeting discussions and decisions.
- Serves as expert consultant to campus leadership.
- Collaborates with the academic space planning team and divisional staff on academic space data entry, maintenance, reporting, and accuracy.
- As needed, leads space data efforts.
- Maintains space policy information on the divisional website.
- Advanced knowledge/skills in city planning, architecture, or other planning-related fields.
- Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including advanced political acumen.
- Advanced analytical and project management skills.
- Advanced knowledge of or ability to learn the campus, including its architectural history, short and long range development plans, infrastructure and current, on-going and future design and construction plans.
- Bachelor's degree in related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $83,900.00 - $120,000.00.
