Departmental Overview

Berkeley Audio/Video (BAV) works to directly improve educational technology on the UC Berkeley campus through its special events, video production, and videoconferencing services. This is a seasonal part-time position with variable hours ranging from 4 - 30 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Projection setup and laptop integration/capture.
  • Signal routing and signal flow.
  • Live audio production. Assuming multiple sources, 10 channel mixer, balanced/unbalanced, indoor/outdoor, output distribution.
  • Basic AV troubleshooting.
  • General PC and MAC skills like control panel setups, Microsoft suite and power point.
  • Work with HD cameras - Panasonic HPX370s - focus, exposure, white balance, framing and smooth operator.
  • Understanding and using High Definition file formats.
  • YouTube live streaming setup.
  • Multi-source video switching.


Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of video and audio equipment, computer, and use specialized software, and sound systems and basic sound system tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply production techniques creatively.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; demonstrated excellent interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
  • Exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities; proven initiative to follow through and complete assignments independently and work cooperatively and productively within a team environment.
  • Experience with projection setup and laptop integration.
  • Experience with signal routing and signal flow
  • Live audio production experience.
  • Assuming multiple sources, 10 channel mixer, balanced/unbalanced, indoor/outdoor, output distribution
  • Excellent AV troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office, Keynote, and PowerPoint on both PC and MAC platforms.
  • Two years of professional production or live-event technical experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Audio - House Sound, Wireless mics, Condenser and Dynamic Microphones, Mackie and QSC PAs, Marantz or Tascam Recording Devices, 3-16 Channel Analog and Digital Mixers, Push to Talk Conference Mic Systems, Audio Signal Flow.
  • Video - Basic Switching Systems, Camera Operation, some experience with scan converters and scalers.
  • Lighting - Up lighting, GELS, basic lighting kits, basic dimming and control, basic electrical safety knowledge.
  • Computers - Display Preferences for both Macs and PCs, Switching and Loading Apps and Conference Presentations. General knowledge of PowerPoint, Keynote, PDF slide show, and Google Slides software. Basic knowledge of DHCP and Static Addressing for Internet Connectivity.
  • Projection - Setup of 4-6K projectors, Front and Rear Projection, Keystone, Various Aspect Ratios
  • Rigging - Ultimate Stands, Ground Supported Equipment, Fast Fold Screen Assembly, Portable Tabletop, Projector Screens, Tripod Screens.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience performing video production support in a similar setting.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $29.96 (step 1.0) - $56.46 (step 17.0).

  • This is a 9-month, 49% part-time (19.6 hours per week), limited (temporary) position that is eligible for Core UC benefits.
  • This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.
