Position: Motor Vehicle Operator/Freight Hauler Department: Office of the Dean/College of Veterinary Medicine

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities
Pick up, load, move, and deliver materials, mail, packages, and equipment
Pick up freight from the physical plant trucking division and make deliveries to the appropriate locations within the veterinary complex with high attention to perishable items
Pick up and deliver specimens/subjects to and from designated off-campus locations, including Alabama State Diagnostic Laboratories as needed
Distribute collected in the appropriate packages located in the Dean’s Office mailroom and storeroom
Collect mail and/or packages from the CVM offices and deliver to Campus Mail Services and other campus sites
Deliver and/or collect mail from offices on the University campus
Collect packages (not placed in mailboxes) from the Dean’s Office mailroom and deliver them to the appropriate offices/laboratories within the veterinary complex
Pick up and fill "Local Orders" originating from various CVM departments/units, as needed
Pick up and return CVM visitors to regional airports or other designated locations, as needed
Pick up and deliver journals and cargo originating from CVM Library and TU Main library
Transport freight safely and efficiently
Maintain a log (record) of all cargo picked up and delivered
Assist with moving and relocating furniture within the CVM complex for special programs/events
Serve as a courier for CVM off-campus events (e.g., retreats/workshops)
Inspects vehicle daily and maintains proper levels of fluids tire pressure, and cleanliness
Ensure log sheet maintained for each vehicle and submit forms related to vehicle maintenance
Report broken or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or department head
Report and maintain contact with supervisor throughout the workday to report location
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
A valid driver’s license (Alabama DL required)
Safe driving record adequate to maintain insurance coverage under Tuskegee University guidelines
Ability to change flat tires when necessary
Must have ability to lift 40 lbs. or more without difficulty, navigate stairs, have manual dexterity
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Good and efficient organizational skills
Be able to perform work assignments independently
Salary
