Overview

Tufts is a student-centered research university that educates approximately 11,500 undergraduate and graduate students across eight schools—Arts and Sciences, Dental Medicine, Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Law and Diplomacy, Medicine, Nutrition Science and Policy, and Veterinary Medicine—and a College of Civic Life. It is an institution with a strong commitment to both teaching and research where faculty are known as the quintessential teacher-scholars. The university encompasses four Massachusetts campuses: a liberal arts, engineering, and international affairs campus in Medford/Somerville; an urban life sciences campus in the heart of downtown Boston; an arts campus in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood; and a rural campus in Grafton that houses the veterinary school. It also operates the Tufts European Center in Talloires, France.

The Tufts Investment Office, located in downtown Boston, oversees $2.6 billion in assets across three distinct pools of capital, incorporating endowment and other long-term assets critical to the university, and is led by Chief Investment Officer Craig Smith.  In conjunction with the university’s highly skilled Investment Committee, the Investment Office is responsible for all investment and operational aspects of investing these portfolios, including asset allocation, portfolio construction, investment manager due diligence and selection, monitoring, portfolio analysis, day to day operations, and reporting.

What You'll Do

The Investment Office seeks to add an intellectually curious and hard-working Senior Investment Analyst to join the investment team in the management of the university’s long-term investable assets.  The ideal candidate will have roughly two years’ investment experience with an investment office of an endowment, foundation, or family office or with a leading institutional OCIO/consultancy (manager research or client-facing roles).  The Senior Investment Analyst role will be expected to work four days a week in the Boston office with one day per week remote-optional.

The Senior Investment Analyst’s primary responsibilities will include analyzing portfolio performance and positioning, monitoring existing portfolio investments, and assisting in diligence of prospective portfolio investments.  Through this work, the Senior Investment Analyst will be required to maintain and update the Investment Office’s models and tools and contribute to the team’s on-going research and discussions.  This is a generalist role, covering both public and private investments.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Work closely and collaboratively with all team members to ensure successful completion of high-quality work
  • Use the Investment Office’s tools and systems to prepare and present a variety of internal analyses and reports to the senior investment team
  • Support the team’s work in monitoring current managers and conducting diligence on prospective managers
  • Prepare materials for the Investment Committee
  • Represent the university at fund manager meetings and industry conferences
  • Develop and share independent views on investments and managers
  • Mentor and train new analysts in the office
