Departmental Overview
The Financial Planning & Analysis Team provides objective, accurate, and timely information and analyses to inform campus decision-making and strategic planning.

Our mission is to effectively manage the budgetary resources of the Berkeley campus in support of instruction, research, and public service. We're responsible for ensuring that campus budgetary policy and practice conform to federal, state, and university regulations. We work with campus academic and administrative units in assessing ongoing budget and planning issues, and establishing and monitoring controls over fund allocations. We provide decision support through cost benefit analysis, partnering with institutional research, and data reporting, analyzing, and forecasting.

Responsibilities
  • Develop training materials, classes and other activities that support the effective performance of Berkeley's planning, budget and finance professionals.
  • Develop, review and revise training materials, including user guides, job aids, computer-based training, and other collateral.
  • Develop and deliver training classes, in particular end-user training on Berkeley's financial information systems in support of planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting activities.
  • Design and facilitate other broad-based training and learning opportunities on campus, including on-boarding programs, mentorship programs, communities of practice, forums, and other events focused on relevant professional development topics.
  • Engage with constituents to evaluate, improve, develop and implement training materials and activities.
  • Initiate and design needs analyses to determine the effectiveness of current training strategies and the need for new ones.
  • Work collaboratively with planning, budget and finance professionals on campus to identify their training needs and develop targeted strategies to address them.
  • Establish evaluation criteria for measuring desired results and the impact of training strategies.
  • Implement changes to training programs to improve their effectiveness and better achieve desired objectives.


Other Responsibilities:
  • Address ad-hoc training issues as they arise.
  • As needed, assume responsibility for the development and management of budgets for training activities and programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • General functional understanding of financial, accounting, and operational business processes and reporting; knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and controls.
  • Advanced knowledge of training needs assessment, design, and delivery/implementation methodologies (e.g, ADDIE) and/or application of Performance Consulting and Learning models.
  • Instructional design experiencedeveloping training content for various modalities (e.g., online, live classroom, virtual classroom, eLearning, tele-classroom), and knowledge of when and how to apply what modality to meet audience and organizational needs.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written presentation skills, and ability to translate material for different user or stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained
  • Ability to coach, facilitate and influence people at all levels without direct authority.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Customer-service focus with demonstrated ability to lead groups to consensus within a designated time-frame, set expectations at achievable levels, and engage senior management as necessary.
  • Able to ramp up quickly to different and sometimes conflicting user perspectives and knowledge bases and apply adult learning principles to prepare and lead people from current to future state.
  • Ability to work cross-functionality, knows when and how to involve business partners such as Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness.
  • Understands how to communicate difficult and/or sensitive information tactfully.
  • Flexible and adapts easily to unexpected change.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Strong project planning skills, including logistics and coordination of production, delivery venues, and other implementation details.
  • Preferred Functional or training experience in Hyperion Planning or other financial applications or modules (e.g., reporting applications, ERP systems, SAP, Oracle)
  • Experience developing online simulations using Oracle User Productivity Kit or other computer-based training software (Captivate, etc.).
  • Broad understanding of organizational change management principles and how training integrates with other change management work-streams and overall project plan.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.


Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.


Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
