Departmental Overview

The Departments of Plant & Microbial Biology (PMB) in the Rausser College of Natural Resources at University of California, Berkeley, provide outstanding academic opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students. Position Summary

Incumbent provides fundamental support by providing the following services: dishwashing, autoclaving, making reagents, general housekeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Perform operational level work in a teaching or research laboratory including but not limited to: preparing standardized media, reagents and solutions from formulas for research or teaching use; sets up simple apparatus for classroom demonstration or laboratory experiments; and prepares solutions.
  • Use limited equipment including a pH meters, stills for distilled water and autoclaves.
  • Wash glassware using a mechanical dishwasher and/or by hand as needed.
  • Keep laboratory facilities clean and sanitary by wiping down benches with 70% ethanol and autoclaving select trash, as instructed.
  • With guidance, be responsible for acquiring and maintaining the materials needed to perform job duties such as autoclave bags and tape, markers, cleaning and dishwasher supplies.
  • Various special projects as needed within the realm of dishwashing, autoclaving, media prep and sanitization.


Required Qualifications

  • Ability to manage time, use of basic lab equipment such as commercial dishwasher, basic computer skills for submitting timesheet.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Use of pH meter and some experience making reagents for labs or classrooms.
  • GED, Associates Degree, BA or BS and/or equivalent experience/training.


Salary & Benefits

This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) non-exempt career position, which is paid hourly and eligible for UC Benefits.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $19.72 (Step 1) - $ 20.81 (Step 2.5).
