Position Summary
As a Network Applications and Automation Engineer you will support the network monitoring, configuration, and automation. Partnering with network engineers you will work on ways to automate changes and improve effectiveness of the team.
Your responsibilities include:
- Selecting and piloting network applications.
- Transitioning from legacy closed-source products to commercial or open-source alternatives, reducing technical debt
- Sharing performance and availability information via public dashboards.
- Maintaining the NCS code base.
- Designing, configuring, and maintaining systems, applications and complex monitoring tools; supporting and administration of enterprise-level networking systems.
- Ensuring availability of on-premise and cloud-based applications.
- Evaluating and supporting vendor-supplied utilities and software packages.
- Automating processes and integrating third-party systems using APIs.
- Applying orchestration technologies where appropriate.
- Understanding application/script development, quality assurance and data integration methodologies, using source control systems like Git.
- Understanding core networking components (routers, firewalls, wireless management, VoIP, VPN, switches and operation systems
- Collaborating with customers and technical colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree with two years’ experience in networking, scripting, or similar environment
- Working knowledge of Python
- Working knowledge of basic network protocols (PING, ARP, DNS, DHCP, and SNMP)
- Experience in networking and analytical techniques, and expertise in selected areas of computer applications and networks.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
- This position may require occasional travel between each university campus and off-campus. Must have the ability to demonstrate that the candidate can meet the transportation needs of this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of open-source network automation platforms including Ansible and NetBox.
- Knowledge of network management applications such as Grafana, Cacti.
- Knowledge of the Linux operating systems and command-line tools.
