The Diagnostic Imaging service provides clinical support to the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and the Hospital for Large Animals. The service also supports the teaching mission of the Department of Clinical Sciences. Modalities covered by the diagnostic imaging service include small animal and large animal radiology, SA ultrasound, CT, MRI and nuclear medicine.

The Veterinary Technician II – Diagnostic Imaging works as part of an integrated clinical care team to provide high quality diagnostic imaging services to inpatient, outpatient, surgical and emergency patients in both the Small and Large Animal Hospitals. In addition, the Veterinary Technician supervises and instructs veterinary students on each rotation.
What We're Looking For
- Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology or a high school diploma (or the equivalent) with at least three years of related experience.
- Excellent small animal handling and restraint skills. Large animal and exotic animal handling skills are also highly desirable.
- Ability to safely administer sedation to and monitor small animal patients
• Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, phlebotomy, veterinary pharmacology (including basic drug dose calculations).
- Ability to effectively work as a member of a diverse team of clinical and administrative professionals. Incumbents must be self-motivated, flexible, organized and cooperative with a strong interest and effort directed towards the success of the entire team.
- Knowledge of Diagnostic Imaging in a veterinary setting, particularly small animal radiography and ultrasound.
- A desire to teach. This includes sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues throughout the Small and Large Animal Hospitals as well as students. Teaching also requires a commitment to ongoing professional development such as participation in Continuing Education and maintenance of credentials and certifications.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues throughout the both Animal Hospitals to prioritize multiple responsibilities for several patients within a busy clinical setting.
- Basic computer skills including the ability to learn the electronic medical record system.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology or four or more years of clinical experience
- Credentialed or the ability to become a Certified Veterinary Technician
- Fear Free certified
- BLS/ALS certified
