This position performs duties necessary to operate and maintain high pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment needed to provide steam, hot water and heating for the university in an environment ranging from -60 F wind chill to 160 F ensuring that safe work practices and procedures are being followed at all times. Duties must be performed competently in routine as well as emergency situations as this is the essential service of the university. Flexibility in work shifts will be a requirement due to the 24/7/365 nature of this department’s essential service to the University.
Duties and Responsibilities (generally)
Work for this position is generated through the need to provide: steam, hot water, heating and cooling for the university. This will include operating and maintaining high pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment along with completing various water testing and chemical treatments.
The individual in this position can refer to guidelines and instructions provided by the department. Questions will be primarily answered by the Lead Plant Stationary Engineer. However, questions can also be answered by the Steam and Power Plant III and the Steam and Power Plant V.
Minimum Required Qualifications for this position
One year (12 months) of work experience comparable to Steam & Power Plant I.
Possession of current / valid licenses and certificates, as required by NIU
