Job Description

Job Title:         Head Strength and Conditioning Coach

*Salary Range: *Commensurate with experience

Department:   Physical Education, Athletics & Recreation

Reports to:      Director of Physical Education, Athletics & Recreation

Essential Responsibilities:
Coaching Responsibilities                                                                                                       

  • Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the department and institution as well as the rules and regulations of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), MAC Freedom, the NCAA, and other authorities that may legitimately influence the intercollegiate athletics program.
  • Design and implement well balanced, comprehensive strength and conditioning plans for all intercollegiate student-athletes and teams that meet the needs of each individual program. 
  • Work closely with sports medicine staff to prepare specialized training programs for those recovering from injury.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the coaching staff to ensure that time spent in the weight room is safe, efficient, and effective.
  • Ensure safety through careful monitoring of the condition of equipment and the overall state of the varsity weight room. Responsible for submitting requests for repair, maintenance, and improvement of facilities as needed.
  • Supervises varsity weight room staff to include two part-time assistants, volunteers, and student employees.
  • Oversees the selection, installation, and service of equipment.
  • Assist with on-campus recruiting activities for prospective student-athletes as needed.
  • Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes, including counseling team members in academic, disciplinary, and personal matters. 
  • Teach two activity classes once per week each semester related to strength and conditioning in the Physical Education program.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complete all required departmental and institutional training and certification programs and participate in available professional development opportunities.
  • Responsible for annual budget with a focus on equipment needs that will enhance the effectiveness of training. Oversees the selection, installation, and service of equipment.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service education sessions, and other divisional or departmental meetings. 
  • Participate in department initiatives, programs, and committees as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree strongly preferred. 

Experience

  • 4 years or more prior coaching experience in strength and conditioning at the collegiate level is strongly preferred.

Specific Skills

  • Communicate effectively and professionally, including written, interpersonal, and public speaking.
  • Must be willing to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

Specialized Licenses

  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
  • First Aid, CPR, AED training certification required.

Compensation:
Grade 6
