The Nancy Thompson Library Learning Commons (NTLC) of Kean University uses innovative technologies and multiple modalities of delivery of student support services that are connected and immersed within its wide array of resources, content collections and services. The NTLC contributes to and assists with academic and scholarly resources campus-wide, as well as with student activities and Kean community programs and units. We seek a Director of Learning Support Services with a vision to help redefine the role of traditional academic libraries, learning spaces/methods and learning services support programs to foster student success and to prepare students for challenges of the 21st century via immersive engagement.

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director of Learning Support Services (Director IV) provides visionary leadership to guide the Nancy Thompson Library in its ongoing transformation as The Learning Commons through dynamic changes in all aspects of information and learning support services. The Director will create and manage an increasingly networked, interactive and collaborative environment in which student learning support services are provided anytime and anywhere, and not simply about remediation or skill sets development. The Director will continuously evaluate and engage the broader Kean community and external partners to meet the evolving needs of the NTLC mission at a world-class campus in a global learning environment. This includes changes in the way student learning is acquired, delivered, consumed, shared and reconstituted among KU students, faculty and staff for educational, research and professional development purposes. The Director will administrate across KU campuses to advance Kean University’s research, teaching and global agendas that are connected to its IMPACT Program ("Insightful, Manageable and Practical Partnerships to Activate Collaboration and Teamwork") with the Kean community. Operations management includes the Kean USA campus, as well as other programs/divisions at Kean Ocean, Kean Skylands and Wenzhou-Kean University, in China. This includes potential travel to and assignments of work at other locations.

This position requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. Work schedule is assigned according to shifts/rotations to cover 24/7 facility and service operations that may vary by academic and calendar year.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Curriculum Development/Learning or a related field and two years of professional experience in a research, educational and/or learning commons setting with advanced understanding of digital information resources and technology and best practices for the digital student interface applied to student learning support services and student engagement practices. Candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree with Master’s equivalent experience such as an extraordinary record of accomplishments in a research, educational and/or learning commons setting will be considered as determined by the University. Specialty in Education, Instructional Design or student learning support pedagogy is preferred. Candidate must have a strong understanding of the evolving issues and trends in higher education, library transformation to learning commons settings, open access and scholarly communications with an expansive view of the role and purpose of technology and interfaces.
