The Department of Theater, Dance & Performance Studies is part of the Division of Arts and Humanities in the College of Letters and Science. Its programs integrate undergraduate and graduate instruction with student participation in theater and dance performance. The Department enrolls approximately 1100 students in its 50-60 classes and seminars each semester. There are approximately 100 majors in addition to 25 students pursuing a Ph.D. in the Graduate Group in Performance Studies. Approximately 400 students are enrolled per semester in courses that engage in participation in production as actors, dancers, builders, stage crew, stage managers, directors, choreographers, or designers. An additional 450 students participate in summer sessions within the Department. The Department personnel consists of 11 ladder rank faculty, 5 contract lecturers, 15-20 other lecturers, 25 graduate students, and 16 career staff positions.
The Manager functions as the Department Budget Officer, and as such is responsible for the administrative management of the unit's resources. The Manager has primary responsibility for long-range planning and innovative solutions to the full range of business management problems, which are frequent because of continual program changes, unpredictable fund sources, and the wide range of activities undertaken within TDPS. The Manager meets regularly with the TDPS Chair and the Department leadership to discuss new revenue opportunities and earned income potential. While TDPS is not an overly large unit in terms of regular faculty FTE and total budget, its programs, functions, and resources are unusually varied and complex. Not only do its programs combine study and practice in a number of distinct fields, but they also involve frequent artistic and academic collaborations, an increasing need and opportunities for fundraising, and a significant use of unrestricted funds and earned income.
Overall, the unit engages in a large and diverse range of activities and transactions, from conventional academic appointments for classes, to stage production budgets, and to assistance on merit review and promotion cases. The Manager is also responsible for numerous material purchases and repairs, artist and vendor contracts, outreach efforts, fundraising, donor relations (in collaboration with Department leadership), the selection and hiring of administrative support, and reimbursement of guest artists and lecturers on varied short or longer-term basis. The Manager works with the Director of Communications/Marketing to plan donor related events and target sources of alternative funds to supplement the Department budget for long-range financial planning. This is an ongoing responsibility due to state budget limitations and the dynamic nature of alternative fund sources. The Manager is required to develop innovative short and long-term solutions to the financial, administrative, and operational challenges that arise on a regular basis. The Manager supervises a wide range of staff positions within the Department from clerical to professional to technical. The Manager provides oversight for all administrative components within the unit. Responsibilities of the Department Manager require an extensive range of knowledge and experience.

- Excellent writing and communication skills, including experience using electronic/digital platforms.
- Ability and willingness to learn and implement new campus systems and processes.
- Knowledge of common University-specific applications, e.g.,Cal Answers, BFS/BAIRS, APBears, Commitments Database, CADS, or similar systems.

- UC Experience or equivalent in fiscal, academic and staff personnel policies and procedures.
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
