Departmental Overview

Donor Recognition Team - Donor and Gift Services

Donor and Gift Services provides an end-to-end spectrum of service that picks up from the point of donor solicitation and follows a gift through processing and acceptance, fund creation and management, and donor acknowledgment and recognition. As an active advocate for donor interests, the Donor Recognition team within Donor and Gift Services manages an array of programs that acknowledge and recognize donors for their giving in meaningful ways, report to them on the impact of their philanthropy, and deepen their engagement with the campus.

Position Summary

The Stewardship Reporting Officer is responsible for the development and delivery of stewardship reporting to Berkeley's donor constituencies. These reports are an important aspect of the university's development activities, expressing to donors the impact and outcomes of their giving and enhancing their engagement with campus. Key responsibilities include preparation and delivery of periodic reports and communications to donor constituencies to recognize their generosity, report on their giving, and share the impact of their support of Berkeley. The Stewardship Reporting Officer conducts research and cultivates ideas to create engaging reports and communications tailored based on programmatic outcomes and addressing donors' interests and the impact of their philanthropic support. The Officer represents Donor Recognition across campus, liaising with unit colleagues to gather information for reporting and address considerations that arise in the process, and cultivates relationships both externally and internally in the furtherance of department goals. As well, they may participate in developing and carrying out donor discussion groups to gain insights into donors' experiences and preferences

  • Using institutional knowledge and awareness of constituency perception, the Stewardship Reporting Officer designs, develops and implements stewardship reports, donor communications, and outreach activities associated with donor recognition programs.
  • Provides analysis of information and complex data reporting results and conducts research in order to prepare stewardship reporting and communications.
  • Works with campus partners to understand outcomes and impact of philanthropy in order to craft exceptional and meaningful reports.
  • Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data associated with management of stewardship reporting programs, delivering findings, interpreting results and/or making recommendations.
  • Works with Advancement Operations staff to ensure proper operation of reporting associated with the management of programs and associated communications; and resolution of issues that arise.
  • Responds to inquiries from internal and external parties, providing excellent customer service and quick resolution to matters that arise.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in donor relations, stewardship, development, or related field.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with experience in production of marketing communications or donor recognition/relations materials that are appropriately presented and effectively received by target constituencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and political acumen, and the proven ability to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of internal and external constituencies.
  • Experienced in conducting research and adept at pursuing needed information and responses from stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of taking initiative to improve the operations of responsibilities managed.
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to plan and implement successful communications campaigns and events.
  • Experience working in a deadline-driven environment and the demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to anticipate and recognize potential areas of constituency concern and address, resolve and/or mitigate problems or issues, advising management as required and proposing effective strategic resolutions.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of or ability to learn about the campus and understand its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements, issues of concern and infrastructure.

Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
