Under the direction of a Facilities Supervisor-Landscape or Regional Facilities Officer or Grounds Crew Leader, perform general and varied grounds maintenance and gardening work.
The Grounds Assistant, working at many different locations, performs general and varied grounds maintenance and gardening work; mow, edge, trim, aerate, fertilize, irrigate, feed, patch and plant lawns, soil, plants, trees, planters and related areas using a wide variety of commercial and industrial hand and power equipment. Apply insecticides, herbicides and fungicides. Load and unload trucks used for grounds keeping purposes. Sweep, clear, clean and pick up refuse from walkways, shrub beds, lawns, and parking lots. Service and perform minor repairs to equipment and sprinkler systems. Plan, trouble shoot, and assist with repairs and installation of water conservation technology in irrigation systems.
REQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES INCLUDE:
sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the duties, tasks, and responsibilities listed above. The assignment may require considerable physical exertion, stamina and flexibility. Current grounds maintenance; gardening methods; State laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures for District grounds work; plant and insect identification and growth habits. Health and safety regulations; safety gear; tools, materials, equipment and their practical use in grounds keeping; sprinkler system maintenance and repair. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Adjust schedules seasonally in accordance with facilities usage and events. Demonstrate cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff. Qualified Applicators certificate- desirable.
