Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide exceptional customer service to the university community by communicating policies and procedures related to leave reporting. Reviews and facilitates the electronic processing of time and leave forms for over 1600 permanent employees.

Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies
This position serves as the point person for leave administration throughout the university. The leave keeping process is vital to the university to ensure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) policies governing leave accrual and usage. Effective, efficient, and streamlined record-keeping are critical aspects of leave administration. The leave specialist runs, analyzes, and synthesizes various reports as part of their daily work, including but not limited to: employee leave reporting (time not entered; entered inaccurately or incompletely; clearing errors; supervisor approval status; etc.); employees in a leave without pay status; employee leave usage and leave balance monitoring; and many other reports. This position will require timely and accurate communication with employees. The leave specialist serves as a key employee in the payroll process, and runs regular reports prior to, during, and after the payroll process. These reports have a great impact on the payroll process. This leave specialist reconciles overtime reports; shift differential and on-call reports; and other key reports and submits to payroll. The leave specialist prepares leave audits and works in close collaboration with Benefits Counselors, specifically with regard to employees on leave or separating from the university. This position attends the leave administrator meetings conducted by UNC-GA Shared Services.
