Departmental Overview

The School of Public Health (SPH) is a large and complex professional school at UC Berkeley, with a mission to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research.

The School is comprised of six academic divisions and 30 research centers and programs, with over 200 faculty, 120 academic/research staff, 155 management/professional/ administrative staff, and 285 student researchers/instructors/workers. The School offers a core MPH degree with nine areas of study, along with five MA and MS degree programs, a DrPH and five PhD degree programs, and five concurrent programs with other UC Berkeley schools and colleges; in addition, the School offers a joint degree with UC San Francisco. The School launched UC Berkeley's first on-line degree program in 2012 and is rapidly expanding the program to reach a wide range of domestic and international audiences through online degrees, certificate programs, and executive education. The School enrolls approximately 575 graduate students per year, as well as educating roughly 440 undergraduate students through an upper-division public health major. The School's more than 13,000 graduates can be found working throughout the world, in both the public and private sectors.

The Center for Targeted Machine Learning (CTML) in the School of Public Health's Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is an interdisciplinary hub that brings together data scientists, statisticians, computer scientists, and health professionals. Its mission is to improve the research and practice of health sciences through developing and applying Targeted Learning analytics to solve urgent health challenges, and making these tools accessible to a broader audience.

Responsibilities
  • Provides analyses for complex budget, financial, academic, data, systems and resource projects working directly with the investigator team and program managers.
  • Participates on policy and planning committees and working groups.
  • Provides strategy development for organizational or research initiative.
  • Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the Center.
  • Coordinates implementation with crossorganizational departments or external entities as needed.
  • Develops scope of work, budgets, and reports for project requirements.
  • Manages a wide variety of administrative functions for the Center related to HR, procurement, reimbursements, event/meeting logistics, research administration and contract compliance.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
  • Participates in trainings and other professional development opportunities.


Required Qualifications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills; demonstrates organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding time-frames and adapt in a fast-moving, high pressure, constantly shifting environment.
  • Ability to organize and manage events and meetings on and around campus, and to coordinate with various vendors or contractors.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Google Collaboration Suite and other collaboration platforms (e.g. Smartsheet, Slack, Box).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in collaboration with team members, as well as with others at varying levels of the organization.


Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience/training.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn common organization - or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
  • Strong policy analysis techniques.


Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $72,000.00 - $86,000.00.
