Departmental Overview
The teaching and research activities of the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) concern the molecular structures and processes of cellular life and their roles in the function, reproduction, and development of living organisms.
The types of living organisms from which the departmental faculty draws its working materials range from viruses and microbes through plants, roundworms, annelids, arthropods, and mollusks to fish, amphibia, and mammals.
Position Summary
The Robey Lab uses both in vivo mouse models and in vitro systems to investigate how signaling pathways control cell fate decisions and how immune effector mechanisms protect against parasitic infection. The Staff Research Associate serves as the principal assistant to the senior staff at Robey Lab. Under general direction of the senior staff, the Staff Research Associate performs a variety of laboratory support functions for the Robey Lab. In addition, the SRA is responsible for general office management, IT support and orientation for new undergraduates.

Responsibilities
- Independently performs in vitro experiments to examine T cell function and development.
- Involves using a variety of complex techniques including tissue culture, molecular biology, high-dimensional flow cytometry, thymic tissue slice cultures, etc.
- Maintains breeding colonies of genetically engineered strains of mice, including projecting upcoming need for particular strains of mice and adjusting the breeding cages accordingly.
- Supports maintenance of other lab members breeding colonies, including providing feedback to other lab members to improve colony efficiency.
- Involves keeping breeding records, typing mice using PCR and flow cytometry.
- Independently performs experiments to examine immune responses to Toxoplasma gondii using both in vivo and in vitro assays.
- General lab maintenance that includes preparing lab supplies, maintains equipment, job also includes general office management.
Required Qualifications
- Familiarity with Molecular and Cellular Biology techniques, including but not limited to: PCR, flow cytometry.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of research experience.
- Experience in Cell culture.
- Experience in PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), midi/mini preparation.
- Maintaining colonies of genetically engineered mice.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted annual salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $60,245.54 (Step 1) - $69,240.17 (Step 8).

- This is an exempt, monthly-paid position.
