The Department of Recreational Sports offers members of the UC Berkeley community an extraordinary experience to live active and meaningful lives while on campus.

Programs and services range from group fitness, aquatics, adventure trips, drop-in fitness and recreation, intramural sports, sport clubs, personal training, WorkFit, and many other activities. Recreational Sports is enhanced by its indoor and outdoor facilities, including three indoor locations, four pools, five tennis courts, and an outdoor adventure center at the Berkeley Marina.

  • Opens and closes Recreational Facilities. Provide corrective feedback on operational tasks to student employees. Trained/Certified to respond and handle medical and non-medical emergencies. Assists Operations and Services Supervisor with overseeing inventory, storage, and maintenance of Rec Equipment. Implements program policies and procedures. Reports safety issues to appropriate personnel and recommends improvements. Maintains files, records and prepares reports as necessary. May assist Operations and Services Supervisor as asked, with interviewing and training Rec Ops employees. Participates in required professional development activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be able to work early mornings, evenings and weekends. Must be proficient in the use of basic computer applications. Position requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally. Strong service orientation, program management, sound judgment and decision-making, critical thinking, developing original ideas, creative problem-solving skills in a varied and challenging environment.

  • Red Cross CPR Certification
  • Standard First Aid Training Certification

  • Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Has specialized knowledge of program activity and industry best practices. Has specialized knowledge in staff training and development. Knowledge of campus policies and procedures. Previous experience working with college-aged individuals and/or equivalent training or experience is preferred.

  • Certification to instruct in the applicable recreational sports program and/or equivalent training or experience preferred.

Salary & Benefits

This is a one year, 75% part-time, 30-hours per week, Contract (temporary) appointment, eligible for UC benefits.

Recreational Sports is recruiting for two (2) Recreation Operations Leads.
