Research Specialist Senior

Pay Range: $41,308 per year or higher depending on education and experience

Full/Part Time: Full Time

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Project Leader, the Research Specialist Senior will manage the daily operations of the entomologic field and vegetable crop research program including designing, planning and conducting laboratory, greenhouse, and field studies; collecting, analyzing and summarizing data; assisting in preparation for workshops, grant submissions, seminars, meetings and field days; and writing technical reports. The Research Specialist Senior will be expected to complete tasks in a timely manner, participate in all aspects of experimental development, and independently perform aspects of research that contribute to the research program.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Education: Bachelors degree

- Experience: Two years of post-bachelors lab experience equivalent to research specialist.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Education/Experience: Master of Science degree in Entomology, Toxicology, Plant Science, Agronomy, Horticulture or related field and at least 3 years relevant scientific experience; OR Bachelors degree and 5 years of relevant scientific experience.

- Ability to work under minimum guidance of the Project Manager.

- Experience supervising, training, or mentoring students or colleagues.

- In depth knowledge of research-related to field and vegetable production practices and greenhouse procedures and production practices of field and vegetable crops.

- In depth knowledge of growth and care of insect pests.

- Sound understanding of scientific principles, computer software programs, and data analysis.

- Good verbal communication skills and willingness to present at state and national conferences.

- Experience performing a variety of specialized tasks and laboratory techniques specific to the needs of the position and operating, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting and resolving basic problems with instruments and equipment.

- Experience keeping records and compiling written information for reports.

- Experience in the analysis of field and experimental data, including statistical analysis.

- Possess a strong history of safe work practices.

- Must possess or be willing to obtain Idaho Limited Applicators License.

- Must have a valid driver license and be able to obtain U of I driving status.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

- May be required to work with toxic, volatile and corrosive chemicals and/or carcinogenic substances; may be required to work in adverse environmental conditions.

- Physical ability to carry, lift and/or otherwise move bags weighing up to 80 pounds from the field onto trailers, or in trucks, or between storage facilities.

- Must be willing and able to occasionally travel up to 300 miles from the main experiment station and work extra hours when needed.
