Departmental Overview

Founded in 1930 through a gift from John D. Rockefeller, Jr., International House Berkeley's mission is to promote cross-cultural experiences and leadership skills for a world of greater understanding. Since its founding, more than 90,000 individuals enrolled at the University of California Berkeley and other Bay Area colleges and universities have resided in the historic facility adjacent to California Memorial Stadium along Piedmont Avenue. During the academic year, nearly 600 residents from 75+ nationalities (including the USA) reside in the building which has six floors of residential rooms. The facility includes a conference center featuring the Chevron Auditorium with a capacity of 350, several other smaller meeting rooms, plus a library, and a dining commons with a capacity of 325. The International House Dining Services is interested in hiring staff that are committed to the following values of:
Service 1st

We are in search of one full-time Sr. Food Service Worker to join our dynamic Dining Services Team to perform the following Duties. The successful candidate will experience working in a newly renovated state-of-the-art dining facility.

Under the supervision of the International House Dining Services Management Team properly plate and serve meals using standard portion control techniques. Distribute, replenish and put away food and supplies in the service area. Maintain cleanliness and follow sanitation guidelines at steam tables, refrigerated serve lines, beverage dispenser. Ensure overall cleanliness of both servery and eatery and directing dis room functions. Operate and maintain dis room equipment such as dish machine and garbage disposal. Distribute, replenish, and put away dishes, pots and pans. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards set by International House Dining Services and ServSafe at all times. Oversee work of two or more student assistants. Perform custodial duties such as floor cleaning, garbage removal, and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Must have basic English skills. Ability to read, write and follow oral/written instructions and to successfully perform the duties assigned. Six months experience in food preparation, service and general maintenance in kitchen or dining area. Ability to lift and move items up to 25 pounds. Considerable standing, walking, bending, grasping and repetitive hand movement required. Serve Safe certification required.

This position requires a food handler card. If you are hired, your employment is contingent upon you obtaining a Food Handler Card within thirty days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a large volume food service institution.

$16.84 hourly
