Overview

The Office of University Counsel (OUC) is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the University including advising the schools and divisions on legal issues. OUC coordinates the delivery of all legal services for Tufts University. The Office provides advice and support to the Tufts' administrative and academic personnel on a broad range of matters, including employee relations, real estate transactions, contracts, litigation and policy development. The Office also coordinates the selection and supervision of outside law firms.


What You'll Do

The Project Manager will work closely with the Deputy General Counsel for Business Affairs in the Office of University Counsel (OUC) to support the OUC. The Project Manager will be responsible for (i) supporting the legal staff in the development and implementation of goals and strategies for projects and the preparation, review and processing of protocols, policies, training programs and documents, (ii) assisting the OUC in management of legal and compliance matters and (iii) coordinating OUC meetings and document management. The Project Manager will interact with others in the OUC, Office of Technology Transfer and Industry Collaboration, the Office of Vice Provost for Research, Purchasing, Operations and Advancement, as well as Tufts faculty and staff, and other entities.  The Project Manager must have the ability to work independently through most projects, as well as contribute to shaping procedures and processes within the OUC.


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

 

  • Knowledge and experience as typically acquired by a Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of expeirence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to support and assist the legal team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, multi-task, and prioritize.
  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, and other document management systems. Ability to learn other computer applications with training provided necessary to the completion of tasks.
  • Proficient in project management software.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time restraints.
  • Creativity and initiative in developing and recommending to management and legal staff improved procedures, processes and techniques to meet varied and complex requirements of the position, task or project.
  • Ability to identify issues and problems and to recommend and implement solutions.
  • Possess a self-assertive attitude with the knowledge and initiative to take appropriate action in the absence of legal staff.
  • Willingness to take on projects outside of their essential functions, to be trained in new areas, and take on new responsibilities as they arise.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience working in a law firm or the legal department a plus.
  • Experience working in a university or research institution a plus.
  • Experience working with compliance matters for an organization a plus.
  • Experience working with invoice software, for example LegalTracker, a plus.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
